Teaching Assistant – Primary & Secondary SEN Location: Basingstoke Hours: Full-Time, Monday–Friday, Term Time Only Pay: Equivalent to £14.25 per hour Start Date: As soon as possible About the Opportunity We are seeking a compassionate, enthusiastic and committed Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN provision supporting pupils across both primary and secondary age groups. The school provides a nurturing, structured and inclusive environment for children and young people with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), global developmental delay, sensory processing differences, and associated social, emotional and communication needs. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to make a genuine difference in the lives of children and young people while developing valuable experience within specialist education. Immediate starts are available, with opportunities to take on additional responsibilities, progress within the role and potentially secure a permanent position following a successful placement. The Role Working alongside experienced teachers and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will play an important role in helping pupils engage with their education, build confidence and develop greater independence. Key Responsibilities Support teachers in delivering engaging, inclusive and accessible lessons Provide one-to-one and small-group support where required Adapt activities and resources to meet individual learning needs Encourage communication, confidence, independence and social development Support pupils with emotional regulation, routines and transitions Help pupils work towards their individual EHCP outcomes where appropriate Build positive, trusting and professional relationships with pupils Encourage positive engagement and participation in learning Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and other professionals Contribute to a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment You will not be expected to lead whole-class teaching. However, experience delivering small-group activities, interventions or targeted support would be beneficial. About You We are looking for someone who is patient, adaptable, resilient and genuinely passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs. Previous SEN experience is welcomed but is not essential. We are also interested in candidates with transferable experience from areas such as: Education, schools or childcare Residential care or support work Youth work or mentoring Healthcare Sports coaching Community or voluntary work Customer-facing roles involving communication and relationship building Most importantly, you should have: A caring, patient and supportive approach Strong communication and interpersonal skills The ability to remain calm and positive in challenging situations A genuine commitment to helping children and young people succeed A willingness to learn and develop your understanding of specialist SEN The ability to work effectively as part of a wider team What We Offer £14.25 per hour equivalent Full-time, term-time-only working hours Start as soon as possible Ongoing training and professional development Support from an experienced and welcoming school team Valuable experience within a specialist SEN setting Opportunities to take on increased responsibility Potential opportunities for enhanced pay Potential for permanent employment following a successful placement Safeguarding & Requirements The role is subject to an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS check and all relevant safeguarding and pre-employment checks.
