HGV / PSV / PLANT TECHNICIAN – Perm Earlies Shift, Mon-Fri Permanent Position £43,915 Fixed Basic Salary Monday to Friday, 07:00–15:00 Monday–Friday Overtime at x1.5 Saturday & Sunday Overtime at x2 £350 Standby Payment for On-Call Week 1 Week in 6 On-Call Rota JOB DESCRIPTION Are you an experienced HGV or PSV Technician looking for a varied role where you can work across heavy commercial vehicles, coaches, plant and electric vehicles? An excellent opportunity has become available for an experienced technician to join a busy engineering operation in Edinburgh. The role is predominantly heavy vehicle based, with a strong focus on HGV and PSV maintenance. You will also work on a smaller number of plant vehicles and LCVs. The fleet includes approximately 22 coaches, around 50% of which are electric, making this a particularly good opportunity for someone looking to build experience with modern EV technology. You do not need previous experience across every vehicle type. Strong HGV or PSV experience is the priority, alongside a willingness to learn and develop across the wider fleet. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES * Carrying out servicing, maintenance, inspections and repairs across HGV, PSV, plant and LCV vehicles * Working predominantly on heavy commercial vehicles and coaches * Diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults * Maintaining both diesel and electric vehicles * Carrying out preventative maintenance and safety inspections * Preparing vehicles for statutory inspections where required * Completing job cards and maintenance documentation accurately * Supporting breakdowns and vehicle recovery where required * Maintaining high standards of Health & Safety and workmanship * Participating in the on-call rota DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE To be considered, you should ideally have: * Approximately five years' post-apprenticeship experience * Strong HGV, PSV or heavy commercial vehicle maintenance experience * NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent heavy vehicle qualification * Strong mechanical and diagnostic skills * Experience carrying out servicing, inspections and repairs * A willingness to work across HGV, PSV, plant and LCV vehicles * A full UK driving licence * The ability to attend site within one hour when on call Previous experience working with electric vehicles would be advantageous but is not essential. Plant or LCV experience would also be beneficial, although training and development can be provided for technicians who have not previously worked across the full fleet. ON-CALL AND OVERTIME * The on-call rota operates approximately one week in six. * You will receive £350 standby pay for the on-call week. * Any call-out is paid for a minimum of three hours at the applicable overtime rate. * Monday-to-Friday overtime is paid at time and a half. * Saturday and Sunday overtime is paid at double time. * You must be able to attend the site within approximately one hour when called out. SALARY AND REVIEWS The fixed basic salary is £43,915 per annum. The company carries out an annual pay review, with additional individual salary reviews after 6 months and 18 months. Combined with overtime, weekend work, call-outs and standby payments, there is strong potential to increase overall annual earnings.
