CNC Miller Programmer | Up to £50,000 | 5-Axis Location: Oxfordshire Salary: Up to £50,000 DOE Hours: 39 hours per week Job Type: Permanent, Full Time Are you an experienced CNC Miller looking for a technically interesting role working with modern machinery and high-value engineered components? We are recruiting for an established precision engineering business in Abingdon looking to add an experienced CNC Milling Programmer / Setter / Operator to its team. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled machinist who enjoys taking ownership of their work, from interpreting the engineering drawing and programming through to machining and inspecting the finished component. You'll be joining a professional, well-organised engineering environment equipped with state-of-the-art CNC machinery, laser and CMM technology, producing precision components for demanding industries including medical, nuclear, semiconductor and scientific applications. The Role As CNC Miller, you will be responsible for: * Programming, setting and operating CNC milling machines * Working across 3, 4 and 5-axis CNC machinery * Online programming using Heidenhain controls * Reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings * Producing high-quality precision components right first time * Machining larger components, including parts up to approximately 2.5 metres * Working to tight tolerances * Selecting appropriate tooling, setups and machining parameters * Creating layout sheets to ensure repeatable machining results * Inspecting and documenting your own work using a range of measuring equipment * Completing relevant quality documentation * Supporting and sharing knowledge with other members of the team * Identifying opportunities to improve machining time, cost and efficiency * Maintaining a safe, organised and professional working environment What We're Looking For We're looking for an experienced CNC machinist who is confident taking responsibility for a job rather than simply loading components and pressing cycle start. You will ideally have: * Strong CNC milling experience * 5-axis milling experience * Strong Heidenhain knowledge * Ability to program CNC mills online * Experience programming, setting and operating independently * Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings * Experience producing components to tight tolerances * Confidence inspecting and taking responsibility for the quality of your own work * Experience machining larger components * Strong attention to quality and a right-first-time approach * Good communication skills * A reliable and positive approach to work A time-served engineering apprenticeship would be advantageous but is not essential where you can demonstrate the required practical experience. Experience with Doosan, Matsuura or Mazak machinery would be particularly useful. Fanuc experience would also be advantageous, although Heidenhain is the key control requirement. Overhead crane and manual handling training would be beneficial, but training can be provided where required. What's On Offer?
